When you first load the game you've got a great looking scroll infront of you (I'm impressed already), so you move the arrow keys until you've got a view of 'New Game', hit enter and away we go. Here is one of the first things that make this game great, you get to choose your own adventurer. Each has thier own characteristics, such as Strengh, Health, Speed, Attack Speed, Size, and what weapons they use best. You've got five to choose from, a dwarf, a babar, fighter, hunter, and knight. They all start off with the same items though, which is a sword. When you start playing you hear a howl from some distant creature, or some other erie noise to set the mood right. You control you're hero with the mouse (I'd prefer a joystick), and you move by moving the mouse around and walk by holding down the right mouse button (I don't really like that setup, but oh well.) The graphics are wonderful, the walls and floors look great, (of course like all texture mapped games the graphics get chunky when you get really close up), and you can change the settings by pressing F-8. When you change anything it gives you a refernce system so you know if you've got enough stuff to handle it. I've got mine set to 68040-40MHZ and everything looks beautiful and it runs like a deer.
If you set up to the lowest possible (68020 14MHz) it looks terrible. I'll be honest and tell you that you need an 68030 and some fast RAM to make this game shine its brightess. And if you do have an 68030 and fast ram you'll be delirously happy with this game. Alright, you set your options for your computer and you get back to the game. As soon as you walk around a bit you'll notice something strange, something in the path of your view. Yes, thats a lens flare. Doesn't it look cool? You'll want to just walk around and stare at the lens flares and say to yourself "This is awesome!". Okay, don't spend all your time staring at the lens flares or you'll miss everything else this game has to offer. It's got light sources so they dim and fade when you get close or far away from them. The battle scenes aren't the best, some of the bad guys aren't well drawn compared to everything else. And I'll be honest, the charcter sounds like a horse galloping when he moves, but everything else is perfect! There's a whole bunch of other aspects of the game, like potions, and traps, and spells. But I'll let you figure all of this out.
In short I love this game, it looks wonderful, runs seemlessly and has excellent gameplay! There are a few bugs to work out but not many, its an amazing RPG-Doom-DungeonMaster style game.
